Racine County Board to vote August 28 on Cannabis Advisory Referendum

UPDATED: Six of seven Wisconsin county boards approve cannabis advisory referendums for Nov. 6 ballot

Six of seven Wisconsin county boards, voting on the same day, passed cannabis advisory referendums for the Nov. 6 ballot. Langlade, Marquette, Forest, Eau Claire, Lincoln and Kenosha counties now join the nine other counties that previously adopted advisory referendum proposals. The combined estimated 2016 population of the nine counties already approved is 2,095,117. The combined estimated population of the counties approving referendums Aug. 21 is 315,630.

New Marquette Law school Poll finds 61% support for cannabis legalization in Wisconsin

A new Marquette Law School poll released today finds 61% support for regulating cannabis like alcohol in Wisconsin. The last time the poll asked the question in July 2016, the figure was 59% support.

Marijuana legalization
Sixty-one percent say marijuana should be fully legalized and regulated like alcohol while 36 percent oppose legalization. When previously asked in July 2016, 59 percent supported legalization and 39 percent were opposed.

Six more Wisconsin counties to vote on cannabis advisory referendums August 21

Six more Wisconsin county boards will be voting Aug. 21 on placing cannabis advisory referendums on their Nov. 6 ballots. Never before in Wisconsin history have six county boards convened to vote on cannabis advisory referendums on the same day. The six counties voting will be Langlade, Fond du Lac, Marquette, Forest, Eau Claire and Kenosha. Racine county votes Aug. 28, the final day to qualify for the Nov. 6 ballot. Nine other counties previously approved cannabis advisory referendums.

Portage County approves cannabis advisory referendum on 22-1 vote

BREAKING NEWS: Clark County becomes the ninth Wisconsin county to approve a medical cannabis advisory referendum and the 20th overall to consider it. The board unanimously approved the referendum at their Thursday, Aug. 16 meeting.
The referendum will ask voters: "Should the State of Wisconsin legalize the use of marijuana for medical purposes and regulate its use in the same manner as other prescription drugs?"

St. Croix board rejects referendum 9-8, Racine county committee okays board vote

While a Racine County Board committee unanimously passed a proposal for an advisory referendum Tuesday night, supervisors in St. Croix County narrowly voted to table that county’s resolution.

The vote in St. Croix County to table the advisory referendum was 9-8 with two members abstaining. WQOW reported that “roughly 15 people spoke in favor of the proposal, but members wanted to gather more information before approving it for the ballot. The board member said the postponement effectively kills the chances of it getting on the ballot, because the deadline is August 28. ”

Portage and Forest County Committees Advance Referendums To Full Board

Two more Wisconsin county board committees advanced medical cannabis advisory referendum proposals to the full board in votes Monday.

The first to do so was the Portage County Board's Health & Human Services Committee which voted unanimously to send the county's advisory referendum proposal to the full county board for a vote on Thursday, August 16. The board meets at 5:00pm in the County Board Chambers in the County-City Building, 1516 Church Street Stevens Point. Supporters are urged to attend contact their county supervisors to get the referendum over this final hurdle.
