Gov. Tony Evers to present first State of the State address Tuesday January 22

Wisconsin Gov. Tony Evers will be delivering his very first State of the State (SOTS) Address at 7:00 pm on Tuesday January 22 in the Assembly chambers at the Capitol in Madison. I’ve been to a lot of these events over the years dating back to the Tommy Thompson years. This year, it’s expected that Evers will share details of his plans to include what he called the “first step toward legalizing medical marijuana” in his first state budget. This is historic.

New Marquette Law school Poll finds 59% support for cannabis legalization in Wisconsin

A new Marquette Law School poll released today finds 59% answering yes to the question, “Do you think the use of marijuana should be made legal, or not?” 35% said no.

In the previous poll, released August 22, 2018, 61% said marijuana should be fully legalized and regulated like alcohol with 36% opposed. The same question asked in the poll released in July 2016, which found 59% support. and 39% opposed.

Sturgeon Bay City Council approves wording for two Spring election cannabis advisory referenda

Sturgeon Bay District 6 alder Seth Wiederanders tells Cannabadger that the Sturgeon Bay city council voted Jan. 15 to finalize and approve the wording of two cannabis advisory referendums for the April 2 spring election ballot in the city. The Council voted 5-2 to approve the wording.

The two questions to be asked are:

“Do you support the use of cannabis for medical purposes?”

“Do you support allowing adults 21 years of age and older to engage in the personal use of cannabis?”

Wood County Board approves April 2019 Cannabis Advisory Referendums

This morning, after much discussion and debate, Wood County supervisors approved a proposal by Sup. Jake Hahn to place two cannabis advisory referendums on county ballots for Spring Election on April 2, 2019. The vote was 10-7 in favor.

The first proposed referendum asks voters, “Should marijuana be legal for adults 21 years of and over, for recreational and medical use, which will be taxed and regulated like alcohol?”

The second proposed referendum reads, “Should marijuana be legal for medical purposes only and available only by prescription from a medical dispensary?”

Wood County Board to vote on April 2019 Cannabis Advisory Referendum Jan. 15

On Jan. 4th, the Judicial & Legislative committee of the Wood County Board of Supervisors passed a resolution to put two cannabis advisory referendums on the April 2, 2019 Spring Election ballot by a 4-1 vote.
