SE Wisconsin NORML, a chapter of the National Organization for the Reform of Marijuana Laws, is organizing a day-long Milwaukee Cannabis Freedom Festival on Saturday, July 11 at 11:00am – 8:30pm at Gordon Park on the city’s East Side. (NOTE NEW DATE: See Event Facebook page for details.)
For the last 4 years ,SE Wisconsin NORML has held an annual march on the first Saturday in May to advocate for cannabis legalization as part of the annual cannabis marches held the first weekend in May around the globe.
This will be the first year of the festival, and the fifth year of the march, which starts at 3 pm. The march is about 2.5 miles long and should take about an hour. Organizers will be collecting non-perishable food items to help the hungry served by the Wisconsin Hunger Task Force in conjunction with the festival.
Organizers also plan to launch a petition drive to collect signatures for direct legislation to legalize cannabis at the local level. At least 31,000 signatures are needed to place a proposal before City of Milwaukee voters. The festival will include vendors and organizers have put the call out for both vendors and sponsors interested in participating in this historic event.
With few larger cannabis events held outside of Madison, home of the annual Great Midwest Marijuana Festival held there each fall for 44 years so far, it is a sign of big progress that Milwaukee-area cannabis activists are escalating their efforts by adding an annual festival.
