Tomah alder Chris King, whose efforts led to the creation of a City Council Ad Hoc Cannabis Committee reports the committee is meeting for the first time since the council authorized it July 12 on Wednesday, Sept. 7 at 5:30pm in the Municipal Center. This will be an organizational meeting at which committee members will elect a chair, vice chair, secretary, etc. The meeting is open to the public. Committee members will then add agenda items for the next meeting. The council voted in favor of the committee 5-2 July 12 after first rejecting it July 11 and Tomah currently appears to be the sole Wisconsin city that has created such a committee.
Committee members will include Tomah Police Chief Mark Nicholson, the city attorney, three council members (one will be Chris King) and Mayor Nellie Pater, with the city administrator as ex officio to review the city’s marijuana ordinances and fines, according to a July Tomah Journal article.
