Monona City Council takes the torch from PSC as pot debate rolls on

UPDATED 02/16/2017 8:15:42 PM-City of Monona alders will be taking a look at the new cannabis ordinance being drafted by the city attorney at the upcoming Council meeting on Monday, Feb. 20, 2017, at the Monona Public Library’s Municipal Room in the lower level. Below is a copy of the proposed changes to the ordinance from the council agenda supporting documents.

Monona’s Public Safety Commission (PSC) forwarded the ordinance to the City Council after a 6-0 vote with one member abstaining on Monday Jan. 25. In early 2016, the PSC voted to table the ordinance on a 5-4 vote after a contentious meeting. Madison NORML activists then gathered hundreds of signatures from city residents in a failed attempt to force a binding referendum. Previously Monona voters strongly favored legalizing medical and adult use in two county advisory referendums.
