While the largest 4/20 celebrations happen in legal states like Colorado, Washington, Oregon and other places that have legalized cannabis for medical or adult use, Madison has a few local offerings for those stuck on this side of the green curtain during 4/20 week.
On April 20, Cheba Hut Madison, the Colorado-based cannabis themed sub sandwich shop in downtown Madison at 453 W Gilman St is hosting an all-day Cheba Hut 4/20 Party starting at 10 AM on Apr 20 and running to midnight.
The Facebook page for the event says this will be Cheba Hut Madison’s biggest 4/20 party yet. The event includes live music from local bands Newport Jam and Dub Borski. They also promise a joint rolling competition, but note “not with real greens, we’re still in Wisconsin people!” Local cannabis legalization advocates Freedom to Choose, interviewed last year in Cannabadger will be providing information about legalization.
Weather permitting, people have been known to gather on Bascom Hill on the UW-Madison campus at 4:20pm on April 20 over the years and there are rumors that this year will be no different. As of this writing (As of 04/20/2016 at 8:02:02 AM), the weather forecast per Wunderground.com is predicting a 30% chance for showers for 4:20 pm on 4/20, with a temperature around 67 and 11mph winds out of the SE.
The 4th Annual Madison 420 Festival returns to the Brink Lounge at 701 E Washington Ave. in Madison on Friday, April 22 beginning at 4:20 pm and running to closing. The festival is presented by Madison NORML and Madison Hempfest. The event features two stages and 12 local bands including Nuggernaut, The Grasshoppers, The Northern Pines Band and The Material Boys.
The Madison 420 Festival Facebook page notes:
We are back at the Brink for what promises to be a complete celebration of EVERYTHING CANNABIS. Like previous years there will be vendors, sponsors, awareness, swag, treats, activism, and of course a bunch of great BANDS!!!!
Madison NORML is launching a direct legislation campaign in the city of Monona to gather enough signatures to place a binding referendum reducing city cannabis penalties on ballots this November. There will be a donation container at the Madison NORML table at the event for donations to help fund the Monona referendum campaign.
