The resolution was sponsored by Sup. Jake Hahn and seconded by Sup. Kenneth Curry. Also voting in favor were Sups. Brad Hamilton and Bill Leichtnam. The sole vote against came from the committee chair, Sup. Bill Clendenning, who according to the meeting minutes, considers cannabis a “gateway drug.”

The first proposed referendum asks voters, “Should marijuana be legal for adults 21 years of and over, for recreational and medical use, which will be taxed and regulated like alcohol?”

The second proposed referendum reads, “Should marijuana be legal for medical purposes only and available only by prescription from a medical dispensary?”

The resolution now goes to the full Wood County Board for a vote on Tuesday, January 15, 2019 at 9:30am. Sup. Hahn tells Cannabadger there has been some pushback from opponents but he expects the resolution to pass by a narrow margin. The board meets in the County Board Room, Wood County Courthouse, 400 Market Street Wisconsin Rapids, WI 54495.
