Wisconsin DATCP says 25 licenses to produce hemp issued as of April 5

The Wisconsin Division of Agricultural Resource Management Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection (DATCP) says the agency has issued 25 licenses to produce hemp as of April 5. Licensing to grow hemp was opened up by DATCP on March 2, 2018. DATCP says they have received about 60 applications to grow hemp.

The 2018 deadline for submitting applications is May 1. 2018. State lawmakers in both chambers unanimously voted to pass Senate Bill 119 in Nov. 2017, and it was signed into law by Gov. Scott Walker on Nov. 30, 2017, becoming 2017 Wisconsin Act 100 after publication.

Wisconsin farmers last legally produced hemp crop was in 1957. During World War II, Wisconsin farmers produced three quarters of the hemp grown in the country.
