In 2016, then-State Senator Frank Lasee (R-DePere) listed an investment in Canadian Cannabis company Canopy Growth valued at between $5000-$50,000. Lasee was first elected to the state senate in 2010, serving from 2011 to 2017. Previously, Lasee served in the Wisconsin State Assembly, representing the 2nd Assembly District from 1995 to 2009.
On Tuesday, August 21, 2018, county boards in Langlade, Marquette, Forest, Lincoln, Eau Claire and Kenosha counties all voted to approve cannabis advisory referendums for the November 6, 2018 general election ballot. Fond du Lac county was the only one of seven counties voting to reject a referendum proposal.
