An executive session was held Feb. 2 on Senate Bill 10 in the Senate Committee on Judiciary and Public Safety after the Jan. 31 public hearing. The vote was 4-0, and having passed out of committee SB10 is available for scheduling for a Senate floor vote. Sens. Wanggaard, Testin, L. Taylor and Risser voted in favor. State Sen. Duey Stroebel, R-Saukville, was excused from the vote. Stroebel was involved in killing last session’s CBD bill in the final moments of the last state senate session.

Meanwhile, an Assembly version of SB 10 sponsored by Rep. Scott Krug (R-Nekoosa) has been assigned a bill number, AB 49. AB 49 has been assigned to the Assembly Committee on Children and Families, chaired by Rep. Joel Kitchens (R-Sturgeon Bay). Expect to quickly see a public hearing scheduled on AB 49. SB 10 sponsor Sen. Van Wanggaard has stated the hope is to pass the bills by March for Gov. Scott Walker’s signature. Walker had signed the first Wisconsin CBD law in 2014, Wisconsin Act 267, and has indicated he would sign this legislation.
